The Plano Brief
Editorial standards
We want you to be able to trust what you read here and to check it for yourself. These are the rules we follow.
Primary sources only
We report from primary sources: the official event calendars and websites of the organizations that run local events, and public records from the City of Plano, Plano ISD, and Collin County when we cover them. We do not rewrite other news outlets' reporting. When another outlet breaks a story, we link to them and give them credit.
Every article lists its sources at the end, with links, so you can read the original material.
How we use AI
Our articles are drafted with AI from the source material listed with each story. The AI is told to use only facts found in those sources and to add nothing it cannot support. An editor then reviews every article before it is published, checking it against the sources. Nothing drafted by AI is published without that review.
Each article says plainly that it was drafted with AI and reviewed by an editor.
Images
Many of our images are illustrations made with AI. Every AI illustration is labeled "AI illustration" where it appears. We do not use AI to create images that look like real photographs of real people or real events.
What we will not publish
- The names of minors, unless a parent or guardian has made them public for a positive reason such as an award
- The names of private individuals accused of crimes, unless they have been formally charged and there is a clear public interest
- The names of crime victims
Stories that touch any of these areas are held for a closer human review and are never published automatically.
Corrections
When we get something wrong, we fix it and say so. Corrected articles carry a note explaining what changed and when. Significant corrections are also listed on our corrections page. To report an error, use the tip form and include the article link.
Independence
Advertisers do not influence what we cover. Paid content is always labeled as advertising. See our advertising policy.
